Create Your Own Resin Polaroid Frame with Flowers: Step-by-Step Tutorial 🌸

If you love DIY projects and want to create a unique decorative piece, in this tutorial I’ll show you how to make a resin Polaroid frame with flowers inside. It’s a fun project and the result is beautiful!
Materials you'll need:
Transparent epoxy resin (Link)
Silicone pad for working with resin (Link)
Polaroid-shaped silicone mold (I bought it on Etsy)
Dried flowers (Link)
Measuring cups (Link)
Silicone mixing sticks (Link)
Disposable gloves
Dye (optional)
Fine-grit sandpaper (optional)
Glue or adhesive for hanging (if you want to hang the frame)
Step by Step:
Prepare your workspace: Make sure your area is well-ventilated and wear disposable gloves to protect your hands. Cover your work table with plastic or paper to prevent spills.
Mix the epoxy resin: Follow the manufacturer's instructions for mixing the epoxy resin in the correct proportions. Typically, it should be mixed in equal parts of resin and hardener. Use measuring cups or a scale and mix well with a stick, avoiding bubbles.
Prepare the mold: Before doing anything, ensure the mold is clean and dry. Place it on a flat, stable surface.
Position the flowers: Before adding resin to the mold, I like to plan where I want the flowers to go so I don’t have to move them once the resin is added, as they’re more fragile when wet. Once I have it planned, I take a photo for reference. If the flowers are too large, I trim them at this step.
Pour a thin layer of resin: Pour a small amount of the resin mixture into the mold, just enough to cover the bottom. This will keep the flowers in place as you arrange them.
Place the dried flowers: Using the photo you took earlier, carefully place the dried flowers onto the first resin layer. Use a stick or small tool to adjust the flowers, ensuring they are completely covered by the resin.
Add more resin: Slowly pour the remaining resin over the flowers, covering them completely. Make sure no bubbles remain. If you see any, you can use a lighter or heat tool to remove them.
Let it cure: Allow the resin to cure according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually between 24 to 48 hours. Make sure the mold doesn’t move while the resin hardens. I did it in two parts—let the first layer with the flowers cure, then added another layer of resin the next day to fully seal the flowers. If you pour all the resin in one go, the flowers rise and float out of the mold.
Demold and perfect: Once the resin is fully cured, carefully demold the Polaroid frame. If the edges are a bit rough, you can gently sand them with fine-grit sandpaper.
Trim and add the photo: Measure the size of the opening and trim your photo to fit perfectly. I used a bit of Blu Tack to attach it in case I want to change the photo later.
Add final touches (optional): If you want to hang your frame, you can attach a small hook or magnet to the back. You can also add extra decorative details if desired.
Other Tips:
Choose your flowers wisely: Small or pressed flowers work best because they fit easily into the mold and don’t interfere with the resin.
Add color or special touches: If you want to give your frame a personalized touch, you can add dye to the resin for a more colorful frame or to create effects. I like to add small nail decorations in different shapes, tiny pearls, and various sizes of leaves to give the design some dynamism.
And that's it! Now you have a beautiful Polaroid frame with flowers encapsulated in resin, perfect for gifting or adding a unique touch to your home. I hope this tutorial was helpful and that you’re inspired to create your own! If you have any questions or suggestions about the steps, feel free to write to me. I’m happy to help.
